After the last iteration of Lenovo"s Legion gaming laptops was mostly a spec bump, the company is putting out a more significant refresh. One thing that"s changing, albeit less significant than the actual product, is branding. The branding is meant to be similar with products like the Legion 7, Legion 5i, Legion 5, Legion Tower 5i, and IdeaPad Gaming 3.
Sitting at the top of the lineup is the Legion 7, the successor to the Legion Y740. You can get it with up to a 10th-generation Intel Core i9, up to an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER Max-Q GPU, and the 15.6-inch FHD screen can go up to 240Hz. With all of that power, Lenovo also was able to include Rapid Charge Pro for the 80WHr battery, getting you to 50% in a half hour.
It also has what Lenovo is calling the TrueStrike Keyboard, and it"s "inspired by Lenovo’s heritage in innovative keyboard technologies". It includes 100% anti-ghosting, less than 1ms response time, and soft landing switches. Lenovo says this adds up to "hair-trigger accuracy". The keys can be lit up in over 16 million color combinations, using Corsair iCue RGB lighting.
It has Q-Control 3.0, for boosting in-game performance, and there"s Legion Coldfront 2.0 cooling. That"s a dual-fan system with 73 liquid-crystal polymer fan blades.
And then there"s the Legion 5 and Legion 5i. The Legion 5 comes with AMD"s Ryzen 4000 chips, along with Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 Ti graphics. It also had a 15.6-inch FHD screen with up to a 120Hz refresh rate.
The Legion 5i comes with Intel 10th-generation processors, and it"s a bit beefier. It comes in 15.6- and 17.3-inch FHD flavors, and it"s offered with Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 graphics. The 15.6-inch model comes with up to a 240Hz refresh rate, and the 17.3-inch model is offered with up to a 144Hz refresh rate.
The Legion 5 series also has a bunch of goodies, like the TrueStrike Keyboard with 1.5mm key travel, it has a 39% larger trackpad, Coldfront 2.0, and Q-Control 3.0.
For the casual gaming, Lenovo has the IdeaPad Gaming 3, a 15-inch laptop with 10th-generation Intel processors up to a Core i7, and Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 graphics. The 15.6-inch screen comes with up to a 120Hz refresh rate, and it also comes with a 1.5mm keyboard and larger trackpad.
But that"s not all, because Lenovo has a new gaming desktop, the Legion Tower 5i, which actually comes with Intel"s Comet Lake S processors, although there"s an AMD model coming later. It has up to an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER, ColdFront 2.0 cooling, and more.
All of these new PCs are coming in May. The Legion 7 will start at $1,599.99, the 15-inch Legion 5i will start at $829.99, the 17-inch Legion 5i will start at $1,129.99, the Legion 5 will start at $759.99, the Legion Tower 5i will start at $799.99, and the IdeaPad Gaming 3 will start at $729.99.
Update: Lenovo has updated its pricing for the Legion 5.
