Last August, Lenovo introduced the first 15.6-inch laptop from the ThinkPad X1 family, and the most powerful. Now, it"s time for a refresh, and the new ThinkPad X1 Extreme takes it up another notch.
First of all, it comes with the refreshed internals that you"d expect. The eighth-generation Intel Core processors have been replaced with ninth-gen chips, and they"re still 45W H-series CPUs. However, this year, you can get it with up to a Core i9, and that"s an octa-core processor with a max Turbo frequency of 5GHz.
The GPU has been revved as well, packing an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 instead of the 1050. Built on the Turing architecture, the GTX 1650 is 70% faster than its predecessor.
Moreover, the new X1 Extreme has an option for a 4K OLED display, replacing last year"s option for a Dolby Vision LCD panel. This is the first ThinkPad since 2017 to be offered with an OLED screen, before it was replaced with Dolby Vision. As you can expect, OLED means that you"ll get true blacks and more vibrant colors.
For audio, it comes with Dolby Atmos, and other specs include up to 64GB 2666MHz DDR4 memory and up to dual 2TB PCIe SSDs. It comes in two colors: the standard ThinkPad black and the newer black with carbon fiber weave.
The new ThinkPad X1 Extreme will be available in July, starting at $1,499.99.
