Although we get to see and hear about a wide variety of handsets over the course of a year, there are still hundreds of handsets released that we never manage to cover or even experience due to their regional availability or other similar factors.
The LG Aka is a good example of a localized release that will most likely never materialize in the United States or Europe. The new LG handset combines the cuteness of a virtual digital pet and fuses it with a mid-range Android phone. The Aka will be available with four different characters and will be enabled depending on the character case that is purchased. You can choose from YoYo, Soul, Wooky, and Eggy.
The handset will function in three modes: Mask On, Mask Down, and Mask Off. Mask On will essentially cover a majority of the phone"s screen with a case and enable a set of eyes that will react to certain actions. For example, if you shake the phone, the eyes will become dizzy. The Mask Down mode will occur if you slide the phone"s cover to reveal the midsection of the display. This will bring up a custom notification panel that will give you access to texts, mail, notes, alarms, and more. Lastly, the Mask Off mode will fully expose the screen of the device and will act like any phone full functionality of the device to the user.
Otherwise, the Aka is a fairly standard device that shares roughly the same specifications as the LG G3 Vigor. The LG Aka will have a 5" display, a Snapdragon 200 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1.5GB RAM, an 8MP camera, 16GB of storage with microSD expansion, and be powered by a 2610mAh battery. For those interested, the LG Aka will be available in South Korea for KRW 500,000 or roughly $457 USD.
