LG has apparently finished off all support for its G5 and V20 smartphone models

As LG gears up to launch its first flagship of the year named the G8 ThinQ, the Korean tech company might have pulled a move that is bound to make a lot of customers upset. Heading over to the LG Security Bulletins page, critical information was spotted by XDA Developers. It has been found that the company might have pulled future software updates for the G5 and the V20, as both devices are not listed on the Bulletins webpage.

This is a rather strange turn of events because LG had originally promised G5 and V20 customers two years of software and security updates. Even right now, some V20 users are currently running Android Oreo, with the Android 9 Pie update notification nowhere to be seen on their devices. LG’s G5 and V20 were both launched in 2016, with the G5 hitting a bold statement thanks to its modular battery and extra mods that could have upped the smartphone experience.

Sadly, it missed some key selling points, but those were addressed with the launch of the V20, which is also the last flagship from LG to feature a removable battery. LG’s current flagship is the V40 ThinQ, and there are whispers that the company plans to announce the G8 ThinQ during MWC in February.

As for what’s happening right now, customers might feel that LG betrayed them by cutting off software support. The latest move will not help the company’s stance in boosting smartphone sales, and with the tech giant having reported operating losses of $130.5 million for its Q3 2018 results, the company will need to start acting more responsibly hereon.
