LG reveals plans for a “super premium phone”, coming this year

Back in April, LG unveiled its latest flagship Android handset, the G4, and since then, it’s extended the range with further models, such as the G4 Beat, G4c and G4 Stylus. But the company has revealed that it will also launch a new model above the range-topping G4 before the end of this year.

As South Korea’s ETNews reports, Cho Jun-ho, LG’s President and CEO of Mobile Communications, revealed that the firm is working on a “super premium phone”, which will be released sometime before the end of this year.

He added that LG is still deciding on an “appropriate time” to release the new device – it seems that the company is keen to avoid launching too close to other high-profile flagships that will soon be unveiled, such as Apple’s new iPhones, and Samsung’s Galaxy Note 5.

He also said that LG aims to expand its share of the smartphone market through more premium offerings, and devices crammed with ‘high-tech functions’, which suggests that the new ‘super-flagship’ could be a true mobile powerhouse.

Recent reports have suggested that the device, which earlier rumors refer to as the ‘G4 Pro’, will feature a 6-inch Quad HD (2560x1440px) display, Qualcomm’s next-gen Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of RAM, a 20-megapixel camera, and more, including a thin metallic body – perhaps ditching the leather bodywork of the G4.
