LG takes first step towards Android 7.0 Nougat rollout with limited beta program for G5

LG seems to pride itself on being ahead of its rivals in releasing major new Android versions. Its G3 flagship was the first handset in the world to get Android 5.0 Lollipop, while the G4 was the first non-Nexus device to be upgraded to 6.0 Marshmallow.

The company is rumored to be launching the first handset to ship with Android 7.0 Nougat onboard - the V20, which will be unveiled early next month - and it looks like it will again be among the first to begin upgrading its devices to the newest OS release.

As Droid Life reports, the company has taken its first step towards its Nougat rollout, with the launch of a limited beta in South Korea.

LG is allowing 2,000 owners of the G5 in its home market to sign up, allowing them to download its OS Preview app from the Google Play store, which will facilitate installation of the Nougat preview.

Google released the fifth and final Developer Preview of Android 7.0 a month ago, and its general rollout is expected to begin very soon.

It"s not yet clear if LG intends to offer similar Nougat beta programs in other markets. But assuming its limited beta goes well, G5 owners around the world should be in line to receive the upgrade very soon after that rollout starts.
