LG is reportedly working on a unique dual-display smartphone that houses a smaller 4-inch display that twists out behind the main screen, in a T shape. A video of the device – called LG Wing – was recently leaked, showing the two displays in action. The phone is expected to be powered by a 7-series Snapdragon processor, details of which are currently sparse.
Now, a new report suggests that the Wing will be sold for $1,000 in the U.S. when it launches this fall. The information reportedly comes from a source close to the company. If true, the pricing on this dual-screened device will be the lowest of the current crop of dual and foldable screened offerings. For reference, the dual-screened Surface Duo starts at $1,399.
However, today’s report conflicts with earlier rumors that pegged the device at ₩1.9 million (~1,600). It is not clear if the company will indeed cut the cost of the device to increase adoption and pit the new form factor’s capabilities and experiences against current flagship offerings.
While some leaked videos provide a hint at the possible use cases of such a phone – including a new video from Android Authority that showcases a game being played on the device –, the adoption and usability also depend on third-party apps tailoring their offerings to adapt to the second swivel screen.
With the LG Velvet, the company promised to bring meaningful updates to its products. It will be interesting to see what LG has in store with the Wing, and how it prices its take on the dual-screen Android device form factor.
