Last week, ahead of CES, LG unveiled a range of new 8K TVs for 2020, with new AI capabilities and smart home integration. Today, during a press event, the company shed some more light on what these TVs can do.
One notable piece of news coming from the event is that LG is including G-SYNC Compatibility in 12 of its OLED TV models for 2020. The TVs also feature HGiG Mode, a feature designed by the HDR Gaming Interest Group to help gamers enjoy titles the way creators intended. The TVs also include an Eye Comfort mode, which helps reduce fatigue during extended sessions, thanks to blue light filtering and flicker-free technology.
Of course, the new TVs also support an array of technologies to improve other media experiences, including Dolby Vision IQ and Filmmaker Mode. These features help deliver images the way creators intended them to be seen, with Dolby Vision IQ focusing on delivering the best picture quality regardless of ambient light or the genre of content. Filmmaker mode, on the other hand, disables certain post-processing effects that change the creators" original vision, like motion smoothing and noise reduction, while maintaining things like the aspect ratio and colors.
For sports fans, the new TVs also promise to improve the experience with 120Hz response time and easy Bluetooth connectivity, which allows the TV to use Bluetooth speakers for rear sound, providing a more immersive experience.
There"s also a new Sports Alert feature that lets users know of scores, schedules, and more, even while they"re watching something else. Whenever an alert comes on, users can also jump right into the right channel to watch matches.
In addition to the previously-announced 8K TVs, LG also announced the new Gallery series today, which is designed to look like a piece of art. They"re very thin, with the 65-inch model measuring at 20mm of thickness, and they don"t need to connect to any external hardware to work. They also come with a special mount to make them sit completely flush against the wall, minimizing the visual impact.
The company also announced new 4K TVs in the form of new CX and BX models, which come in 55-, 65- and 77-inch sizes, in addition to an all-new 48-inch model.
