Developer Dontnod Entertainment"s Life is Strange series is quite popular among gamers who prefer narrative-focused choice-driven titles. Both games in the series, the 2015 original, as well as the 2017 prequel Before the Storm, have been quite positively received by gamers and critics alike.
At Microsoft"s E3 event today, the developer has taken to the stage to announce another game in the Life is Strange universe, titled The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit.
According to the developer, this is a standalone title so you won"t have to play other games in the series to enjoy it. However, it does offer hints towards Life is Strange 2, "you’re clever enough to piece the clues together".
Players will be able to assume the role of 10-year old boy Chris who dreams of becoming a superhero. According to Dontnod, the game helped it realize the scope of the Life is Strange universe and its relatable characters. The developer notes that:
The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit is the first step towards showing you the true potential of Life is Strange, and the possibilities of a diverse universe filled with interesting characters and stories to tell. With it, we have created a self-contained narrative experience that’s brimming with content – the deeper you dig, the more you will discover. While this demo is designed in the usual Life is Strange way and allows you plenty of time to explore everything, it is at the same time structurally different to previous entries. You will most likely see and discover new content on subsequent playthroughs which you might have previously missed. And there are some secrets that may very well take a coordinated group of fans to unravel…

The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit will arrive as a "100% free" title on Steam, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on June 26 this year.
