Linspire Ships Linux Desktop Upgrade

Linspire Inc. on Wednesday launched an upgrade of its Linux desktop, which includes a streamlined graphical interface and improved laptop and hardware support. Linspire Five-0 includes more than 1,200 improvements incorporated over more than a year of development, the San Diego-based company said.

"Linspire Five-0 is so easy to use, it finally makes Linux practical for anyone -- from a Fortune 500 executive to a kid researching a school essay," Michael Robertson, chief executive of Linspire, said in a statement. The desktop OS includes the OpenOffice.org suite of productivity applications, which are file-compatible with Microsoft Office. The OS also ships with a web browser, e-mail and instant messaging clients, multimedia viewers, photo and music managers, calendaring tools and other applications.
