Lite-On IT Selects Sigma DVD Chip for New Line of DVD Players

Thanks ooo for this one.

"Sigma Designs, a leader in IP video streaming solutions, today announced that its EM8500 DVD decoder chip has been selected for use in the LVD-2001, a new series of advanced DVD players by Lite-On IT Corporation, the world"s second largest optical drive manufacturer. This marks a bold entry into the DVD player market by manufacturing giant Lite-On IT, who is planning to market these players on a worldwide basis. The LVD-2001 will be demonstrated at the IA Show taking place in Taipei on November 16th to 19th and will be in full production by February 2003.

Lite-On"s model LVD-2001 is a DVD player with several advanced features, including MPEG-4 playback, a photo browser and progressive high definition output. With MPEG-4 content becoming more popular across the Internet, users can now enjoy reduced bandwidth and file size requirements without compromising visual quality. Furthermore, next generation players such as the LVD-2001 are unifying media and formats exchanged between personal computers and consumer appliances.

In support of the increasing popularity of digital cameras, the LVD-2001 features a universal memory card interface that accepts cards used in digital cameras, including Compact Flash, Smart Media, Memory Stick, SD card and MultiMedia card. The LVD-2001 lets users view their photo images directly from the memory card interface, viewing them in great clarity on a high definition display.

"Lite-On is combining years of experience in designing optical storage products along with enormous manufacturing capabilities to create innovative DVD players for the mainstream consumer market," said Mr. Danny Liao, president of Lite-On IT Corporation. "The features and quality of Sigma"s EM8500 DVD decoder chips will enable us to offer the type of solution that consumers demand."
