Back in July, Microsoft announced a bunch of features that were slated to be added to Teams such as Together Mode, Video Filters, and more. Another feature that is set to be added is a Live transcripts feature that lets users download transcripts of a meeting, which also attributes text to a specific speaker.
Now, the firm has announced via the Microsoft 365 Admin Center that the transcription feature will begin rolling out in September. The Microsoft 365 roadmap listing for the feature was also recently updated with the change. The entry mentions a September 2020 release.
With transcripts in Live captions, users will be able to view a live transcription of speech during a call with the content attributed to each speaker. These transcripts can also be recorded – along with the meeting – and downloaded post a meeting. There are admin controls to allow for these settings, details for which are present in the support document here.
Users can also search for specific text in the transcriptions when playing back recorded meetings, making it easy to search for the desired content and the timestamp at which the discussions were made. These features also prove to be useful in learning scenarios or can be used as an accessibility feature. However, it must be noted that, the feature will currently be limited to the English language for users that have their language set to English in Teams.
While Live transcripts should begin rolling out in September, it might not be available to all users right away. These features are usually rolled out gradually, so the feature should be made available in stages to tenants.
