Local Microsoft Stores taking free reservations for new Surface tablets

Microsoft launched pre-orders for the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 tablets less than a week ago on its Microsoft Store website, but you had to pay the full price upfront. However, if you don"t have the money yet to pay for Microsoft"s next PC products before they launch on October 22nd, and if you live near a Microsoft Store location in the U.S and Canada, you can reserve your tablet for free before the release date.

WPCentral.com reports that the reservations at those stores are being taken for all of the models except for the 512 GB Surface Pro 2 version. We mentioned last week that the Microsoft Store website was not taking pre-orders for that model. That has since changed and the store website is now accepting sales for the 512 version. However, it won"t ship to customers until October 29th, about a week after the launch dates for the other Surface tablets.

The move by Microsoft Store locations to let people reserve the new Surface tablet with no money down is basically the same thing the company did when the original Surface RT launched in October 2012. Last time there were lines outside some Microsoft Stores to get the first generation tablets. We will have to see if that is duplicated for the launch of the new models.
