Logitech has announced the successor to the popular C920 webcam, the C922 Pro Stream, a mass-market option for vloggers, gamers and streamers of all kinds. The C922 is currently available for $99 and includes an adjustable swivel tripod in the package.
Guiallaume Bourelly, a product and portfolio manager at Logitech, wrote that "when we launched the best-selling Logitech C920 Webcam, we set a standard for affordable, high-quality video communication and it became the most widely recommended webcam by professional gamers and vloggers." He went on to say that the C922 Pro Stream "makes it easy to produce clear, professional content," and is "designed to meet the demands of serious streamers."
The C922 can record in either 720p at 60 frames per second (fps) or in 1080p at 30 fps, with H.264 video compression technology built in. Other notable features are automatic low-light correction, two omni-directional microphones for clear audio recordings, and support for the latest versions of Windows, macOS, Chromes OS and Android.
The webcam includes software technology from Personify, which allows Windows users to broadcast live images of themselves in their streams, without a green screen setup. In addition, purchases will come with "a complimentary 3-month XSplit Premium license for Windows," which gives streamers access to XSplit"s high-end recording tools.
While Logitech continues to release webcam and video conferencing products including the SmartDock, users should still take steps to maintain their privacy, as FBI director, James Comey, recently advised consumers to cover up their webcam with tape.
