Long live Socket AM4! AMD officially expands Ryzen 5000 CPU support to 300 series boards

During CES 2022, AMD stated that it was looking into expanding the support for Ryzen 5000 series processors onto first-gen 300 series chipset motherboards. Well, it looks like AMD wasn"t joking around back then as the company made the official announcement today confirming support for all Ryzen 5000 series CPUs, even the ones launching today, on first-gen 300 series chipset boards.

Extended AMD 300 Series Motherboard Support

In addition to these exciting new processor releases, AMD announced it is extending support for Ryzen 5000 Series processors on AMD 300 Series chipsets, including all the new desktop processors announced today. The latest AMD Ryzen 5000 Series processors will be supported on AMD X370, B350 and A320 chipsets, offering a seamless upgrade path to “Zen 3” performance. Selective BETA BIOS updates are expected to become available in April.

Although there is no mention of AGESA firmware version in the official press release, rumors suggest that the AGESA version 1.2.0.7 will bring the support for Ryzen 5000 series processors to all 300 series motherboards, even entry-level A320 boards.

Curiously, this is also the same AGESA update that fixes the fTPM stuttering bug on Ryzen.

Overall, this announcement is pretty good news for Ryzen users, especially those who bought into the AM4 ecosystem back in 2017-18 when Ryzen 1000 series launched for the first time.
