Lots of Xbox 360 games go missing from online store due to "technical glitch"

Microsoft is still trying to fix what it calls a "technical glitch" that is affecting thousands of downloadable Xbox 360 games. The problems began on Thursday when titles from the Xbox Live Arcade and Xbox Live Indie Games sections of the Xbox Games Store began to disappear.

Gamasutra reports that the number of Xbox Live Indie Games dropped from 2,100 titles to just 949 on Thursday. Microsoft"s Xbox Live status page currently shows there are issues with downloading content on the Xbox 360 console as well as from Xbox.com. It also shows that the Windows 8 Xbox SmartGlass app is currently experiencing launching issues.

In a statement sent to Gamasutra, Microsoft said:

We"re aware there is an issue affecting the Xbox Games Store that has temporarily removed some content including Xbox Live Arcade and Xbox Live Indie Games titles. This is a technical glitch and we"re working to fix the issue as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Microsoft recently rebranded the Xbox Live Marketplace as the Xbox Games Store, as part of its move to ditch the "Marketplace" name for all of its online downloadable storefronts. We will update this article when Microsoft fixes its latest online glitch.

Update: The Xbox Live Status page shows everything is OK on the games front but there is apparently a new issue with the Xbox Music service
