Lyft develops an ebike with in-built screen, speaker, and plenty of safety features

Be it fitness or reducing your carbon footprint, biking is picking up pace across the globe. According to the popular ride-hailing service Lyft, about 1.8 million people tried the company"s bikes and scooters for the first time in 2020. Riding high on this growth, Lyft has developed its first in-house electronic bike in the United States.

Lyft spent over two years getting things right. During the development, the team"s focus was on modern yet accessible design and safety. The result is a single gear transmission bike that can handle different speeds and types of roads. To achieve a streamlined design, the engineers integrated the battery and cables inside the frame. The bike packs in a 500-watt motor, which can provide you a much-needed boost to climb hills. Although the company hasn"t revealed the battery capacity, it is said to last 60 miles on a single charge.

Lyft has equipped the bike with a glowing LED ring to ensure safety during the night. The entire bike is also painted with retroreflective material for good measure. It has an LCD screen and speaker to assist the user with unlocking and parking tutorials. The onboard sensors track the bike"s health in real-time. Thus, making sure that you don"t end up with a bike with braking or battery issues.

Following extensive internal trials, Lyft is set to add this bike to the Bay area fleet next week for public beta testing. If things go as per the plan, Lyft"s ebike will be rolled out in Chicago later this year.
