Destineer subsidiary MacSoft today announced that its long-awaited conversion of Unreal Tournament 2003 will hit stores on June 11.
Unreal Tournament 2003 is the latest version of the popular first person shooter. Created by Digital Extremes in collaboration with Epic Games Inc., the game was published for the Mac by Atari. The Mac version is currently in development at Epic and will be published by MacSoft next month.
First unveiled to attendees of January"s Macworld Conference & Expo in San Francisco, Unreal Tournament 2003 features arena-style gameplay where players can either go online on LANs or the Internet and compete against each other, or against other "bots," or computer controlled players. Unreal Tournament 2003 features a variety of new features and capabilities, weapons, maps and more.
Unreal Tournament 2003"s pending release was hinted at a few weeks ago when Apple released Mac OS X 10.2.6. At the time, Apple indicated in its release notes that changes had been made to the Nvidia and ATI graphics drivers to better support Unreal Tournament 2003. Shortly thereafter, MacSoft offered up a "beta tech demo" of the game featuring four playable maps.
