Madden Dominates US Sales Charts for August

As expected, EA"s Madden 2006 dominated video game sales charts in the United States for August 2005, but the overall margins may be the shocking part of the story. Madden 2006 moved over 2.2 million copies across all platforms in its first few weeks of release, with Nintendo"s DS dog sim Nintendogs coming in a distant second with roughly 210,000 copies moved by the beginning of September. Even with the wide gap, what makes the Nintendogs figures stand out is the fact that the game has reached 10% of the US DS hardware base in only a few short weeks and has helped drive hardware sales of that device, whereas Madden 2006 has been released across all consoles, handhelds, and the PC. EA"s NCAA Football 2006 came in third, with 180,000 units moved.
