Mafia: Definitive Edition release pushed back to September 25

Just a couple of months ago, the original Mafia game from 2002 was announced to be getting a complete remake under Hangar 13, with 2K Games publishing. However, before being even in the vicinity of the original release date, August 28, it has already been revealed that the launch has been pushed back. Mafia: Definitive Edition will now be releasing on September 25.

Explaining the reasoning behind the launch date slip, 2K and Hangar 13 said the following:

Though we’d originally planned to release the game one month earlier on August 28, finalizing everything in time for that launch date has become increasingly challenging due to the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic, and the last thing we want to do is compromise the quality of the experience.

During the PC Gaming Show last month, the developer showed off some of the remade in-game cinematics of the title in a new narrative trailer. The game will once again let players experience the criminal underworld of Lost Haven as Tommy Angelo.

"From the beginning, this has been a passion project for us," added the statement. "Many of our developers helped create the original Mafia, and all of us are committed to crafting an updated experience worthy of that timeless classic."

While the wait is now longer, to make things easier for fans, the developer will be showing off an extended look at the remake"s gameplay on July 22. A short teaser from the soon-incoming footage can be seen above.

Mafia: Definitive Edition is now releasing on September 25 for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. Pre-order options for all platforms can be found here.
