It has taken five long years, but finally, Illusion Softworks" Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven from 2002, is once again digitally purchasable on the PC. The classic open-world title was taken down from Steam 10 years after its launch without any explanation, but GOG has managed to bring the game back for players to experience once again.
For the uninitiated, the game takes place in the fictional American city of Lost Heaven around the 1930s, where players assume the role of Tommy Angelo, a taxi driver who joins and climbs the ranks of the Salieri crime family.
Mafia has held up quite well for a 15-year-old title, and even if the graphics may seem hard to swallow in this day and age, its brilliant storyline should make up for that. Even with two sequels to its name, many fans of the series consider the original"s adventure the best of the three.
However, there is a caveat. The GOG version sadly does not include any of the licensed music that the game originally possessed. This means players of this version will be much lonelier when going on the game"s numerous, long and precarious car rides without the 1930s iconic music on the radio to accompany them. But, fans always find ways to restore cut content for games, and this should not be any different.
Mafia is now up for purchase on the GOG Store for $14.99, giving everyone a chance to experience Lost Heaven, whether they are returning players or new.
