The Plex system of apps and services is fast becoming the most popular way to organise and view extensive home media collections. Yesterday the team announced that the Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 have all been updated so they are totally free. Normally these apps would require either a lifetime subscription or monthly charge to use.
Once Plex is installed on a PC or NAS you can play back your content on almost any device with a screen. That includes smartphones, smart TVs, Roku, Apple TV, Tablets, PC’s and of course consoles. The service is designed to help you catalogue your music and films to make them easier to access and aid discovery. Much of the organisation can be done automatically saving valuable time. Once catalogued it’s then all available in an elegant interface perfect for browsing.
The Xbox One app also takes full advantage of the Kinect for voice control.
