OK, we get it: Everyone with a Windows PC wants to get "Grand Theft Auto V." Rockstar Games has yet to announce such a port of their best-selling open-world action game, but there is certainly a lot of interest in a PC version. Now it appears that a clever delivery system is using that pent up anticipation for a GTA V PC port to get people to download malware instead.
The file download started appearing on torrent sites earlier this week, and according to WCCFTech, the 18GB file has already been downloaded thousands of times. Basically, as the screenshot shows above, the file makes people think they are downloading a setup.exe file for GTA V but in fact it tries to trick people to surf to a website to "register" their personal information. This is obviously a phishing scheme.
The truth is that Rockstar Games will almost certainly release a Windows port of GTA V sometime in the next several months or so, as they have done for all of the previous games in the GTA series. In fact, recent rumors claim that the game will be out by the first quarter of 2014. So it stands to reason that any file that claims to be a GTA V build before then is almost certainly faked, and designed to either mess up your computer or steal personal information.
