An unnamed Hong Kong citizen was caught trying to smuggle 94 iPhones into China strapped to his person, but the plan was foiled when airport metal detectors were set off. It was also reported that he had already aroused the suspicion of the authorities due to his odd behavior, which included a "weird walking posture, joint stiffness and muscle tension."
The devices seized by customs were all iPhone 6 and 6 Plus models that were strapped in rings around his calves, thighs, torso and crotch. He was also carrying two shopping bags that contained nothing illegal, perhaps in an attempt to throw off authorities" suspicions.
Although the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus have been available in China for some time, as well as being exclusively manufactured in the country, smuggling remains a lucrative business due to the expensive pricing of Apple"s flagships there. The tactic known as the "mobile armor" method, is used frequently by smugglers.
However, if caught like this individual, the penalty in Hong Kong for smuggling can be as much as $2 million in fines and up to seven years in jail time. A risky business indeed.
