The Nintendo Wii and DS continue to hold the top spots in hardware. Although this is not unusual, the bolstered DS numbers are notable in light of the 3DS reveal earlier last month. The latest Pokemon games, which sold a combined 1.7 million+ units, and the release of DSi XL could explain the strong sales of the handheld despite the untimely announcement of its true successor.
The PlayStation 3 continues to lag behind the Xbox 360 in hardware sales, but it takes the top spot in software sales for March with God of War 3. Final Fantasy XIII also had a strong showing on PS3 proving that consumers still associate the franchise with the PlayStation brand. The obvious technological deficiencies of the Xbox 360 version probably had an impact as well.
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 also had a strong presence on the software list this month. First person shooters have traditionally done best on Xbox 360, and unsurprisingly, Battlefield sold best on that platform.
