Square Enix"s take on the Avengers won"t be flying onto consoles and PCs in May this year as previously announced, as the game has been pushed back by four months. Instead of May, Marvel"s Avengers is now slated for launch on September 4.
The game is under development by Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montréal, and today, it was the former"s co-heads Scot Amos and Ron Rosenberg that delivered the news on the studio"s website.
"When we set out to bring you our vision for Marvel"s Avengers, we committed to delivering an original story-driven campaign, engaging co-op, and compelling content for years to come," said the studio. "To that end, we will spend this additional development time focusing on fine tuning and polishing the game to the high standards our fans expect and deserve."
The third-person action-adventure game was unveiled during last year"s E3, with gameplay of it arriving a couple of months later at gamescom. There will be both a campaign as well as a cooperative multiplayer mode that will offer replayability. As evident by its name, the game will follow the Avengers in an original storyline where the Earth"s Mightiest Heroes have disbanded after being framed for an attack.
As long as no more delays hit the game, Marvel"s Avengers will land on September 4, 2020 for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
