The controversial ending for Mass Effect 3 is going to get some more content, according to a new press release. Developer BioWare and publisher Electronic Arts have announced plans to release Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut sometime this summer. The free DLC pack for the sci-fi action-RPG will "expand upon the events" in the game"s ending and "will give fans seeking further clarity to the ending of Mass Effect 3" along with "deeper insights into how their personal journey concludes."
The ending of Mass Effect 3 was an immediate source of contention for some of the series" fans, who felt that it wasn"t a satisfactory conclusion to the storyline begun several years ago with the first game in BioWare"s trilogy. A number of fans started petitions asking BioWare to change the ending. A few weeks after Mass Effect 3 was released, BioWare"s co-founder Dr. Ray Muzyka said that the team was "working hard" to provide a solution for the fans of the game.
The Official Mass Effect web site has also posted up a brief FAQ about the Extended Cut DLC. The FAQ reveals that it will add more "cinematics and epilogue scenes to the existing ending sequences." The FAQ says that the ending itself will not be changed, stating, "BioWare strongly believes in the team’s artistic vision for the end of this arc of the Mass Effect franchise. The extended cut DLC will expand on the existing endings, but no further ending DLC is planned."
