During the N7 day celebrations, BioWare today officially confirmed the long-rumored remasters of the Mass Effect trilogy. The collection is dubbed Mass Effect Legendary Edition and it is heading to both current and next-gen platforms next year.
The Legendary Edition remasters the 2007, 2010, and 2012-released sci-fi role-playing titles and all of their DLC packs. "Our goal was not to remake or reimagine the original games, but to modernize the experience so that fans and new players can experience the original work in its best possible form," said BioWare in its announcement. It doesn"t sound like the multiplayer content will be included.
While not remakes, the trio will be enhanced with updated textures, shaders, models, effects, and technical features. The games will also be running at higher frame rates and at 4K resolution.
Mass Effect: Legendary Edition launches in Spring 2021 for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
However, that"s not all, as alongside the remaster confirmation, BioWare also announced it is working on "the next chapter of the Mass Effect universe". Similar to the new Dragon Age entry BioWare is also quietly developing, details are scarce regarding this new project, with the studio only saying that a "veteran team" is in charge of it and that development is in the early stages.
The last time the series surfaced was back in 2017 with Mass Effect: Andromeda, though the game was not received well. The new entry could be a continuation of this storyline set in the Andromeda galaxy, or the saga may be going back to the Milky Way to pick up where Shepard left off, though this may be difficult due to the multiple choices presented at the trilogy"s end. A prequel is also an option for the RPG.
