The virtual reality exclusive game Respawn Entertainment has been quietly working on was officially announced today during the Oculus Connect 6 conference, and it is a Medal of Honor title. The first-person shooter series has been on ice since 2012"s Medal of Honor: Warfighter, making this a pleasant surprise for any long-time fans.
Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond is being developed for the Oculus Rift, with EA saying that a team of veteran developers from the original series are involved in the making of it. This entry has the series returning to World War II, heralding a full single-player campaign as well as multiplayer modes.
Above and Beyond will place players behind enemy lines "to sabotage Nazi facilities, subvert enemy plans, and aid the French Resistance." Respawn Game Director Peter Hirschmann had this to say about the return of the classic series:
“It’s a great feeling to introduce Medal of Honor to a whole new generation of gamers on a new platform for the franchise. I’ve been fortunate to be a part of this franchise since the beginning, and putting this game on the Oculus Rift allows us to be more immersive than we’ve ever been before. If the game we’re making ignites people’s imaginations and illuminates the world, then we’ve accomplished what we’ve set out to do.”
Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond doesn"t have a fixed release date yet, but is planned to land on the Oculus Rift sometime in the summer of 2020.
The developer, Respawn Entertainment, is nowadays known for Apex Legends, the hit battle royale from earlier this year that"s set in the same universe as the studios" acclaimed Titanfall franchise. Don"t forget that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is also under development at the busy studio, aiming for a November release this year.
