MediaTek"s capabilities have exploded over the last couple of years and their latest SoC range reflect that. In a teaser for the still-unreleased Mediatek MT6795, MediaTek shows off the super slow-motion video-capturing capabilities in a video of a BMX stunt.
The video starts off by showing some general BMX stunts until one person pulls out their smartphone - appropriately branded with "MediaTek" - and begins to record the stunts. The teaser then goes on to show video being played back with the speed of the playback being controlled in real time, offering both 1/4 and 1/16 playback speeds.
According to MediaTek, this is the world"s first smartphone SoC that can capture 1/16-speed video. The SoC itself has eight cores clocked at 2.2 Ghz and is based on ARM"s big.LITTLE technology. Unlike the standard big.LITTLE configuration, MediaTek"s variation continues to use all eight cores simultaneously.
The new SoC should be a close contender with Qualcomm"s Snapdragon 810, both of which should be offering the latest and greatest in smartphone computing. 2015 is shaping to be an interesting year for smartphones - both inside and out - and it may very well turn out to be an important year for the smartphone SoC war.
