Mega opens to preview users, announces premium pricing

Mega, the successor to the shut down MegaUpload file sharing website, is not scheduled to launch to the general public until Sunday. However, some members of the press have now gained access to Mega ahead of its launch by its founder Kim Dotcom.

TechCrunch reports that that the site will have three tiers for premium access to the site. One will include 500 GB of storage and 1 TB of bandwidth for €9.99 a month. The second increases the storage to 2 TB and bandwidth to 4 TB for €19.99 a month and finally, paying €29.99 a month for Mega gives you 4 TB of storage and 8 TB of bandwidth. Dotcom has already announced that users can sign up to get 50 GB of storage for free.

Preview users of Mega can access a blog which reveals plans to update the service with a number of features over the next several months. They will reportedly included additions to the file transfer queue such as dragging and dropping for changing the file transfer sequence, user-to-user messaging with file attachment support, included applications such as a word processor, spread sheet, and calendar, and access via mobile apps.

One interesting thing is that Mega recommends that Google"s Chrome browser be used when accessing the service, claiming that it is " ... the most advanced browser currently in existence."
