MEMORY WATCH site DRAM Exchange reports that the spot prices of memory, both DDR and SDRAM flavours, are beginning to show a decline. The site says that the prices on the spot market are falling to join the prices of contract memory, the prices PC manufacturers pay.
The reason is, the site reckons, that the peak of the manufacturing season has been and gone, and there"s no particularly bright news, whether from Comdex 2002 or from the industry itself to boost the prices. In fact, and as we reported earlier today, Comdex 2002 is looking decidedly underattended.
The Taiwanese firms that usually turn up in Las Vegas in their droves are not showing much enthusiasm for this year"s Jamboree. The Taiwanese press reports that around 100 firms only have taken booths. PC sales continue to be somewhat slack. We need a Doom III and other great games to boost the market.
And corporate sales of PCs are not expected to pick up until the second half of next year, by which time large companies – the manufacturers hope – will be ready to replace their Year 2000 investments
