Microsoft: 14 million jobs to be made via cloud computing

Recently, Apple tried to make the claim that it was directly or indirectly responsible for generating over 500,000 jobs in the US. Now, it"s Microsoft turn to make its own case for job creation but in a somewhat different way. In a new press release, the company announced that it commissioned a study from IDC to look into how many new jobs would be made by the cloud computing industry.

The final result of the study claims that businesses that will spend money on public and private cloud computing services will end up creating nearly 14 million jobs worldwide between 2011 and 2015. It further claims that innovation in the IT business via cloud computing will result in over $1.1 trillion in worldwide revenue in the same time period.

Microsoft also offers up a new infographic, pictured above, that goes over how cloud computing will help generate jobs in the US. The study claims that by 2015, 1.09 million new jobs in the US would be created via businesses embracing cloud computing.

Naturally, Microsoft believes it has a lot to offer businesses in the cloud computing space, including products and services like Microsoft Office 365, Skydrive and more. In a separate post on the official Microsoft blog site, Robert Youngjohns, president of Microsoft North America, states:

In my current role, I have the unique opportunity to interact with customers across the United States in various industries including manufacturing, education, healthcare, banking and government.  I have had many discussions with them about the cloud and how it has helped transform their business and improve economic health. What has come out of those discussions is a customer belief that Microsoft has the best cloud solution to meet their business needs.
