Microsoft 365 Government now offers Teams availability and some new security features

Last year, Microsoft announced Microsoft 365 Government, a productivity suite targeted toward U.S. government organizations. The three cloud environments primarily offered as part of 365 Government are Government Community Cloud (GCC), Department of Defence (DoD) Cloud, and GCC High. Today, the tech giant has revealed some new teamwork and security features that have been introduced to the suite of services, and others that will be released in the coming months.

Although Microsoft Teams has already been offered in the GCC for some time, its availability is now being expanded to DoD Cloud and GCC High as well. The teamwork hub will help government agencies improve collaboration while meeting complex security and compliance requirements. The broadened availability of Teams comes after Microsoft"s announcement last month that Outlook mobile architecture is now compliant with the security needs of customers employing use of the aforementioned cloud environments. Email, search, and calendar capabilities for government employees have been improved as well.

With regard to security, the Redmond giant has specifically noted tools such as Office 365 Advanced Threat Protection (ATP), Threat Intelligence, Exchange Online Protection, and more, in its bid to offer agencies improved protection against cyberattacks. New capabilities in Office 365 ATP P2 for GCC will also be arriving later this year, as per the company"s 365 Roadmap. These will help reduce the time security teams need to spend investigating threats, by automating investigation of such threats in email.

Organizations interested in making use of Microsoft 365 Government can request a trial here, provided they fulfill the eligibility requirements.
