On Tuesday, in the middle of the Surface reveal news, Microsoft quietly announced it was acquiring the cloud storage-based company StorSimple. Today, Microsoft"s buying spree continued with the announcement it was acquiring MarketingPilot Software.
Today"s press release says that the Evanston, Illinois-based company will now become a wholly owned subsidiary of Microsoft. Specific financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. However, the press release says that MarketingPilot Software will be a part of the Microsoft Dynamics CRM team.
Launched in 2001, MarketingPilot Software creates "integrated software for marketing departments and ad agencies." So what would Microsoft want with such software? In a post on the Microsoft Dynamics website, the company states:
This acquisition is a very exciting step forward for us, and will accelerate our ability to better meet the needs of CMO"s through rich business intelligence, and better enable marketers to successfully plan, execute, monitor, and optimize customer interactions across digital, social and traditional channels, and measure ROI.
The post adds that Microsoft plans to reveal more about its future plans for Dynamics, including what it will use from the MarketingPilot software and team, at its upcoming Convergence event in New Orleans in March 2013.
