Microsoft adds language labels to Xbox games on the Microsoft Store

Microsoft is making it easier to find games that support your language on the Microsoft Store. Both the Store app on Xbox consoles and the Xbox Game Pass mobile app are being updated to add new language information to game listings, making it evident at a glance which languages are supported in each game.

A new "Languages" label will be shown without even having to open the specific listing for a game, and tapping it will bring up the list of supported languages, from a total of 27. This information is being collected in three categories - interface, audio, and subtitles - so you"ll be able to see whether a game is fully translated with spoken dialog in your language, or if some reading will be required while playing, for example. The Store will automatically bump your console"s system language to the top of the list of supported languages, so you shouldn"t have to scroll down to know if your preferred language is supported.

The process of adding these labels has to be done on a per-game basis, so not every game will have them already. Right now, Microsoft says it has added the labels to "hundreds" of games, and more will be added over time.

Microsoft says this is an important step in making gaming experiences more accessible to everyone, but it"s also working on more ways to do just that. The company will have more updates to share on that front later this year, saying that it will "make it even easier for you to find and play games that are right for you, meeting your unique preferences and needs". Accessibility is a major priority for Xbox, and that was most evident with the release of the Xbox Adaptive Controller in 2018, so we"ll likely keep seeing announcements like this.
