Microsoft has released a new build of Windows 10 and with it comes a few updates to the Privacy settings that give the user more control over how apps interact with your data. To grab the latest build of Windows 10 with these new settings, you can find the instructions here.
In build 10061, Microsoft has made a few changes to the Privacy options including adding a "Radios" option and "Account Info", and they recently added "Messaging" as well. Additionally, Webcam has been renamed to "Camera".
The Radios setting allows you to individually control which apps can use Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. In the Messaging section you have the ability to limit which apps can read text or MMS messages; Account info has the same option as Radios and Messaging.
These privacy features will only work with apps that come from the Windows Store but that should not be a big surprise as these apps work in a more controlled environment when compared to Win32 apps. Still, giving users more control over how apps use their machines and their data is a welcome addition to the platform.
Windows 8 did have similar settings but they were limited to "General", "Location", "Webcam", "Microphone", and "Other devices".
If you have this build installed, you should be able to try out the features now as they are working for us. If you happen to find anything else new in this build, make sure to send us a tip.
