Earlier this month, Microsoft rolled out native Bing support to its SwiftKey Beta app for Android, allowing users to search the web directly from the keyboard app. That feature has been limited to the beta version of the app, though, until now. The built-in Bing search function is now available on the stable version of SwiftKey for Android.
To get started with the new feature, just tap on the plus symbol to open the toolbar on the digital keyboard and then click on the search icon. The search results will be displayed in the form of a browser tab overlay. There"s also an option to capture, crop, and send a screenshot of the results page to contacts or just share the URL with them.
Unfortunately, there"s no option to switch to Google as an alternative search engine. That"s understandable since Bing is owned by Microsoft, which also owns SwiftKey, but the lack of a switch button of sorts restricts the users" options.
The native search support is currently limited to the U.S., UK, Canada, France, Germany, Australia, Japan, Brazil, India, Italy, and Spain. If you want to give it try, you can download the updated SwiftKey app from the Google Play Store.
