Microsoft adds Phil Spencer to its Senior Leadership Team

Microsoft is adding Phil Spencer to its Senior Leadership Team (SLT) as the Executive Vice President of gaming as of today. If this is any indication, the company is making gaming an integral part of its core strategy and not just an outlier (read: Xbox).

Spencer is currently heading the Xbox division at the Redmond company and has been the harbinger of one of the most intriguing turnarounds for the platform. His pro-player and pro-developer approach has made him a fan favorite. He has previously headed Microsoft Studios and Game Studios. His new position will entail leading Microsoft"s gaming business across all devices and services but the gaming business is still a part of the Windows and Devices unit.

Satya Nadella, Microsoft"s CEO, also announced that the Enterprise Mobility and Security (EMS) team, which will be renamed as Enterprise Mobility & Management, is moving from the Cloud and Enterprise unit to Windows and Devices. The group will still be headed by Brad Anderson, Corporate Vice President at the company.

This is yet another restructuring for the Nadella administration, albeit on a much smaller scale. The company, presumably, intends to become a leaner and more efficient version of its bloated, disconnected self.
