Microsoft launched versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint for Apple"s iPad just over a month ago, but the number one missing feature was the ability to print documents from those apps. That has been finally rectified with the addition of printing support for all those apps in the first major update for Office for iPad.
Microsoft"s Office blog states that documentsĀ made or edited in the apps can now be sent to an AirPrint printer. It states:
In Word for iPad, you can choose to print a document with or without markup. In Excel, print a selected range, a single worksheet or an entire spreadsheet. Of course, you can select the pages or slides you want to print.
Today"s update also adds SmartGuidesĀ in the PowerPoint app, which will allow for better alignment when placing images, shapes and text in a slide. The Excel app also includes AutoFit for adjusting the width and height of more than one column or row at once. Finally, there are a number of unnamed improvements and bug fixes in this new update.
Microsoft announced in early April that the various Office for iPad apps were downloaded 12 million times, but there"s no word on any updates to those numbers in today"s announcement.
