Rumor: Microsoft aims to sell ~100 million Windows Phone devices in 2012

Microsoft is not holding back when it comes to setting the bar high for 2012. The company supposedly has internal goals of selling ~100 million Windows Phone devices in 2012, according to wmpoweruser.com.

The site is also reporting that the real reason that dual core phones are not currently supported is because of Nokia. Since Nokia was new to using the Qualcomm chipset, they wanted to hold back competitors, such has HTC and Samsung, from producing dual core devices and overshadowing Nokia"s products.

If the information is true, Microsoft is being ambitious with its plans for Windows Phone, which is a good thing. For those who have used the Windows Phone OS, most will say that it is a pleasure to use and it has typically ranked well in reviews. Knowing this, if Microsoft and its vendors are able to effectively market the products, it does stand a reasonable chance to hit this lofty goal.

We must stress that this information is not confirmed and is based on a source who spoke to wmpoweruser. At this time, we can not confirm these internal goals or the information about dual core phones being held back.
