Back in December, Microsoft outlined its belief that passwords should no longer be the first line of defense against cyber threats. The company also mentioned the importance of using validation methods such as its own Windows Hello biometric authentication system.
It seems that Microsoft is working its way towards its ultimate goal of ""making you the password", as the tech giant has just announced that it is partnering up with Fujitsu to bring a new way to validate user identity. This new validation method, dubbed the palm vein authentication system, helps you login to your Windows 10 PC by using a sensor to read and interpret the unique ways in which the veins in your palm are positioned.
The following video details the thinking involved behind the creation of palm vein authentication:
The technology behind palm vein authentication, called PalmSecure, is said to make the authentication process "extremely fast" and reliable. Akira Yonenaga, Software Development Division Manager at Fujitsu, noted that this authentication system is all the more secure because it"s not easy to obtain other people"s vein information, as the vein map beneath the skin is quite complex. The palm vein sensor is currently embedded in PCs with Windows 10 Pro.
Quite recently, both companies collaborated in the field of artificial intelligence as well. Consumers will be hoping that this recent team-up in offering advanced security leads to an official integrated solution release date being announced soon. At the moment, however, you can check the current Fujitsu devices that are shipped with Windows 10 Pro along with the relevant Biometric authentication options over here.
