Microsoft and Intel vow to continue support for Huawei devices

The U.S. government"s move to place Huawei on its Entity List has sparked fears that future Huawei devices will lose support from American suppliers such as Google, ARM, and Microsoft. For the owners of Huawei laptops, in particular, concerns arose late last month when all traces of the MateBook X Pro were gone from the Microsoft Store for unknown reasons, though they were back a month later.

Now, Microsoft has confirmed via PCWord that Huawei"s Windows laptops will continue to receive software support despite U.S. trade restrictions. In a statement to the news outlet, a Microsoft representative said:

“We remain committed to providing exceptional customer experiences. Our initial evaluation of the U.S. Department of Commerce’s decision on Huawei has indicated we may continue to offer Microsoft software updates to customers with Huawei devices.”

This was mirrored in a previous statement from the Chinese tech giant, promising that all its PCs will continue to receive Microsoft support as well as Android updates for its smartphones and tablets. The same reassurance was given by Intel with regards to Huawei devices running Intel processors.

However, those promised updates are for existing Huawei devices only. It remains to be seen how the U.S. Entity List"s inclusion of Huawei will affect future hardware from the company. In fact, there"s a growing concern now for future Huawei laptops especially after a report surfaced recently claiming that the launch of its newest Windows PC had to be canceled.
