Microsoft and OEMs offer Windows 8.1 devices to U.S. schools starting under $300

The Dell Venue 11 Pro tablet is one of the devices sold as part of the new U.S. schools program.

Just a few days after Microsoft announced that all U.S. schools could use its Bing search site without seeing any ads, the company has revealed a new initiative that will offer a way for those same schools to get their hands on a variety of Windows 8.1 devices at cheaper prices.

In a press release, Microsoft said that it is working with a number of major OEMs to make a number of tablets and notebooks from their companies available to purchase for U.S. schools at prices starting at under $300. The devices that are a part of the program include:

  • Acer Travelmate TMB113-E
  • Asus Transformer Book T100
  • Dell Venue 11 Pro
  • Fujitsu Stylistic Q704
  • HP 210 Notebook PC
  • HP ElitePad 1000
  • Lenovo ThinkPad 11e
  • Toshiba Satellite NB15t

In addition, the program will include an unnamed new Panasonic device made for students that will be revealed later this summer. Microsoft also said, " ... exam delivery provider Certiport Inc. is providing certification exams worth over $5 million following students’ completion of Microsoft IT Academy training."
