Microsoft and Unity have partnered to organize a Windows Game Developer Contest in an effort to bring quality Unity games to the Windows and Windows Phone Store. The two are offering cash prizes up to $10,000 to the game developers who best utilize the Unity game engine according to the following criteria:
Publish your best apps and games in the Windows and Windows Phone Stores – and have a chance to win big cash for your creative efforts – in the Windows Game Developer Contest, running now through March 20, 2015. A Microsoft panel will judge submissions based on quality (50%), creativity (30%), and technical excellence (20%), with First Place winning USD$10,000, Second Place winning USD$5,000, and Third Place receiving USD$3,000. Ten Honorable Mentions will win USD$1,000 each. You’ve got the games and apps, now enter them with a chance to win big cash and a bigger audience.
Offering incentives and holding such contests for developers is surely a step in the right direction. In this way, quality games reach a wider audience, receive rightful recognition in the Windows Store along with their respective developers; the cash prize is an added bonus.
At Microsoft"s Windows 10 event, Phil Spencer also announced that Unity has already adopted the new DirectX 12 API which is bound to entice even more Unity game developers to create games for Windows.
