Microsoft announced that it"s expanding support for Windows 10 IoT Core today, with support for new processors and an expanded life on the Long-Term Servicing Channel.
Currently, the OS supports select chips from Broadcom, Intel, and Qualcomm, but it will soon support NXP i.MX 6 and i.MX 7 SoCs. Microsoft says that these chips enable trusted I/O, so even if a malicious app were to corrupt the operating system, it wouldn"t be able to control the device.
It"s already in private preview, and if you want to try it out, you can sign up here. You can use it with the following devices:
Aaeon PIXO-IMX6
Advantech RSB-4411
Keith & Koep pConXS with TrizepsVII
SolidRun HummingBoard
Kontron SMARC-sAMX6i (Azure certification in progress)
Microsoft also announced that beginning with the fall 2018 release of Windows 10 IoT Core and IoT Enterprise (likely version 1809), the company will provide 10 years of support in the Long-Term Servicing Channel. This is meant to provide security throughout the life of the device.
The firm said that general availability for NXP support will be available later on this year, so that also seems likely for the fall release.
