Almost four months ago, Microsoft unveiled the Surface Laptop, a premium notebook with a keyboard covered in luxurious Alcantara fabric. It said that the device would be offered in multiple configurations, with a choice of Intel"s 7th-generation Core i5 or i7 processors, along with four colour options.
However, potential buyers in the UK were immediately disappointed to learn that Microsoft was only offering the Laptop in a single color: Platinum. Today, though, it announced availability of the other three colors - Burgundy, Graphite Gold, and Cobalt Blue - on its UK store.
Bizarrely, Microsoft said that these color options "can now be pre-ordered in the UK", despite stating in the same paragraph that these devices are "due to ship on August 24", i.e. today. For some reason, its Surface Laptop announcement was also buried in a news release entitled "Microsoft just announced great savings on the Surface Pro 4".
Unfortunately, as in the United States, UK buyers can only get the new colors in a single configuration of the Surface Laptop: the Intel Core i5 model with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD, which is priced at £1,249.
Last week, Microsoft quietly began accepting US orders for the Core i7 models in the additional colors, and then suddenly stopped doing so a few hours later, without explanation or comment.
