Microsoft announces LinkedIn integration for Samsung's Bixby assistant

While Samsung initially planned to roll out its own Bixby digital assistant in tandem with the launch of its latest Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones, the company ended up delaying the availability of voice capabilities to users in the US until the middle of last month. It"s also believed that the smartphone giant plans to incorporate support for Chinese into Bixby but has been slowed down by the lack of data and foreign language experts.

Despite what could be construed as a rather shaky start, Microsoft has announced integration between Bixby and LinkedIn that may help those on the go better informed of the people with which they are next meeting.

In the lead up to an appointment, Bixby will now be able to provide links to LinkedIn profiles via "My Schedule" notifications, allowing users to quickly identify common connections and the background information of meeting attendees. Furthermore, Bixby"s integration with the professional social network will help people keep track of who they have met to make messaging and connecting simpler.

Also included as part of the partnership will be the ability to glance at some of the "Trending Storylines" from LinkedIn without having to go to the website or open the app.

Those interested in leveraging the functionality will have to ensure that they have downloaded the LinkedIn app on their Samsung Galaxy S8 prior to logging into their account and setting up their device to sync with the service. Bixby will then take care of the rest by creating the relevant cards to keep you informed during your work day.
