Microsoft announced today record revenues for its last fiscal quarter which ended on September 30. The company revealed today that revenues came in at $17.37 billion for the quarter, a 7 percent increase compared to the same time period a year ago. Net income for the quarter was $5.74 billion, a 6 percent increase compared to the same time period a year ago. The revenue numbers were above expectations from financial analysts while the diluted earnings per share of $0.68 were in line with previous expectations.
Microsoft also announced expected revenues for the current fiscal quarter to be between $28.6 billion to $29.2 billion. Those numbers include revenues from Microsoft"s newly acquired Skype business which Microsoft closed on earlier this month.
Among Microsoft"s various business sections, the Windows and Windows Live division brought in $3.25 billion in net income in the quarter, slightly lower than the $3.29 billion it generated a year ago. The Microsoft Business Division, which has the Microsoft Office business, brought in net income of $3.66 billion in the last quarter, up from $3.47 billion for the same period a year ago. The Entertainment and Devices division, which includes the Xbox 360 business and the Windows Phone division, had a net income of $352 million for the quarter, down slightly from the $386 million in net income for the same period a year ago.
The Server and Tools division brought in $1.6 billion in net income for the quarter, up from $1.54 billion for the same period a year ago. The Online Services division, which includes the Bing search business, lost $494 million in the quarter but that was better than the $558 million it lost in the same time period a year ago.
