This morning, Microsoft launched a new app called Sway. The app is a new way for you to share and display your content that moves beyond PowerPoint.
You can head on over to Sway.com if you want to get on the list to try out the new app (it"s via invite only, for now) but if you take a look at the video below, you can get a better understanding of what the purpose of Sway is.
Microsoft describes Sway by saying the following:
A “Sway” is what we call the canvas you create using Sway, and it’s much more than a document in the traditional sense. It’s built from the ground up for the web and devices. A Sway adapts to fit the device that it’s viewed on, large or small, so your ideas always get the best treatment. A Sway is cloud native: you just drop in your content from your cloud storage, your devices or your social networks.
Based on the video, it looks like Sway might be a new way to ditch the aging PowerPoint presentation in favor of a more modern application of displaying content. As you can see by the examples on the Sway site, the app allows you to tell stories in new ways that don"t require any programming knowledge.
The idea is that the app makes it easy to bring in content from all of the apps that you use, like OneDrive and Facebook and then creating a rich presentation from that content. Microsoft says that they will be adding more sources for pulling in content and new ways to interact with the information.
The purpose of Sway is to allow non-technical users to create online content that works on any screen. This removes the burden of trying to develop a webpage for your presentation that works on any display.
